Jogan Gauze Creation Story

Thoughts of the makers of Jogan's "ANGEL SPIN"

Always "something new". The challenge of a long-established towel manufacturer

Jogan Corporation

Representative Director Kazumasa Semba

Senshu, Osaka is one of the leading towel production areas in Japan. We will look into the secrets of a towel manufacturer that has been in business for more than 70 years, but has continued to take on the challenge of creating something new, and has produced 23 registered utility models.

Senshu, the birthplace of domestic towels

The area consisting of Sennan City, Izumisano City, and other cities located in the southwestern part of Osaka is called Senshu. It is said that towels were first imported and produced in Senshu.
The towels produced in Senshu, which often use a process known as "post bleaching," are said to be highly absorbent and resistant to shrinkage after washing.
Jogan Corporation is one of the leading towel makers in the Senshu area, which is one of the leading towel production areas and is lined with towel makers with a long history and high technology.

One of the greatest strengths of Jogan Co., Ltd. is the power of ideas to plan and develop new products one after another.
President Kazumasa Senba has played a central role in the company's constant search for new products that meet the needs of the moment and has created new products.

For example, "Cool Ito," for which a utility model was registered in 2012, has a special processing that gives it a cool-to-the-touch effect.

The trigger for the development of cool yarn was the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011.
As electricity saving awareness increased nationwide due to the stoppage of power plants after the earthquake, the need to stay cool in the summer without using air conditioners and fans as much as possible increased.
In response to the growing demand for products that cool the body without relying on electricity, we worked on the development of these products.
The "Eco de Cool" series of contact-cooling towels using this yarn is now a signature summer product.

Evolution and change in proprietary technologies

Evolution and change in proprietary technologies In addition to the development of new technologies, the company is also working to develop products to meet changing demands by reviewing the usage of once-developed technologies and adding new applications. Cool Ito," which has been used mainly as a cooling material towel scarf that can be draped around the neck, is now being applied to other products. One example is "Ice Towel," a cute wash towel with patterns such as watermelon, chocolate mint, and pineapple. These towels are cool to the touch and fun to decorate, and are popular as gifts.

In 2020, the company will begin producing masks using cool yarns.
This was born out of a search for what we, as a towel manufacturer, could do to protect people from two risks, the spread of infection and heat stroke, during the first summer when wearing masks has become a daily routine.
In order to sell the developed product widely, a crowdfunding campaign on the Internet raised more than the target amount from 160 people, and the supply of the product started in the summer of 2020 as planned. The product was an item that would help people get through the summer.
The material, which has an easily recognizable cooling effect, is not limited to use as a towel to meet the initial demand for the product. The idea of using the material as a "cool" item for use in the summer was expanded to include ice towels with playful designs, and cool masks were created to meet the new demand for the Corona disaster.
We continue to make changes to the technology we have, without being bound to a single form.

Skilled knowledge and technology behind weaving

Cotton, hemp, rayon, polyester .......
The word "yarn" refers to a wide variety of materials, each with its own characteristics.
Not only yarns made from a single material, but some yarns have new properties added to them by crossing multiple materials.
The characteristics of the finished product vary depending on the balance of materials and the weaving method.
Fluffy fabric, firm fabric. Breathable fabrics, warm-keeping fabrics. Material selection, blending, and weaving methods. ...... The quality of towels is determined by a combination of countless conditions.
From material development to new product creation and weaving at the factory, the deep knowledge and understanding of materials and weaving methods possessed by each and every person involved in towel production results in the creation of high quality towels.

Product Development with a Clear "URI"

Jogan boasts 23 utility model registrations. In some cases, the company develops new products on its own, while in other cases it collaborates with general merchandise chains and department stores at their request.
We try to have a clear selling point that differentiates our products from the competition," says Mr. Senba.
For example, "Angel Spin," which thoroughly pursued softness to achieve a voluminous appearance and fluffy feel to the touch, was registered as a utility model.
The "ECO de Cool" series, registered as a utility model and featuring the contact cooling effect of "cool yarn," won the Gold Award in the daily necessities and sundries category at the Omotenashi Collection in 2019, where foreigners living in Japan select Japanese products that embody the spirit of hospitality.
While pursuing high quality by focusing on domestic manufacturing, the company also actively collaborates with spinning makers and research institutions to develop products that have their own unique appeal.

The world is diversifying in every area, including work styles and hobbies, and demand is changing at a dizzying pace.

Mr. Senba believes that the key to creating "products that sell" is not only to grasp what the market is looking for, but also to read further ahead and plan and come up with ideas on one's own," he says.
Our goal is to create high-quality, comfortable, safe, and secure products that enrich the lives of those who use them.
Senba's "traditional" weaving techniques, cultivated and passed down through more than 70 years of experience, and his "innovative" ideas, which have led him to develop new materials and new products one after another, and for which he holds 23 utility model registrations, are the key to creating "sellable products.
The fusion of tradition and innovation with the consumer in mind has made Senshu a leading towel manufacturer.
